Does Your Online Video Attract The Customers You Want?

guy videotaping.jpgHow many of us ‘work’ to find customers only to find we’ve interested the wrong prospect?  People produce a video and upload it to YouTube or any number of video sharing sites. The video brings traffic but no sales or sign ups from the video traffic.

People hope to produce and have a viral video.  If it’s cute, funny, controversial or sexy a video can become viral. Just like the name implies viral videos can quickly spread online. With the popularity the video can bring lots of traffic quickly to a website.

But unless you target the video for the specific customers you want, you will get a spike of traffic but little else.  People get discouraged saying, “Video doesn’t work. It’s just for teens or whatever.”

Like other promotional mediums video can provide information and a fun experience for your customers and prospects. Videos can act as teasers asking a question and directing viewers to your website.  Videos can also explain a complicated product and answer questions.  It can act as a frequently asked questions (FAQ) guide for your website.

What other ways can video play in promotion?  Well, for a realtor video can show the interiors of a listing increasing the exposure of the property for her client. A car dealer can show a new car and how much it holds.  Now with all the things one needs to carry when you have children that would be really helpful.

If you have a product you could videotape it from a variety of views.  Think of being able to look at a piece of furniture from a variety of views.  Many eBay sellers uses videos to demonstate the condition of their products.

How about using video to show how to set up or assemble a BBQ grill or child’s bicycle?

The possibilities for video are limited only by your imagination and your customer’s desire for information.

The key to a good promotion video plan is preparation.  Part of the preparation is deciding who your customer is and what you want them to do at your website.

  •              Do you want them to buy a product?
  •             Sign up for your email list?
  •             Download a free report?
  •             Come to your store or office?

What problems do your customers have?  How can you or your product solve a problem of your customer?  How can you add value to their life? (Save time, money, and energy)

Then you need to take some time to discover how your potential customers look for their solutions online.  People will use certain keywords or phrases to find the information they want.  If your solution and your videos contain those keywords and keyword phrases and good content, your website has a better chance of attracting the customers you want.

Using keyword tags for your videos can help the search engines find and list your video as a relevant resource when search results are displayed.

You want to move your visitors to your website from interested visitors to buyers then finally engaged customers.  Engaged customers will help you sell your products and services as you have met their needs and they will be willing to promote you and your business.

Video can work for almost any product or service.  Just make sure it delivers the message you want to send to the customers you want to reach.  It’s all in the planning.
