Lesson Under the Golden Arches
Ok I admit it I’m guilty, I love the French fries from the Golden Arches. When my husband’s out of town, and I’m too tired or lazy to cook. I’ll drive through those Golden Arches.
There are times I crave the French fries. Now they don’t taste as good as they used to before they became healthier, but some days they still call my name.
Well, last night I answered the call of the Golden Arches. I drove up to the drive through lane and took my place in line. When my turn came the disembodied voice pleasantly greeted me and asked if I wanted to try one of the toasted deli subs.
I chose the turkey BLT, but here’s where the script had changed since I was last there.
I was ready to say, "YES!" to fries, but this time the Voice and script had changed. I wasn’t offered a "Yes or No" question.
The question was, “Would you like the meal or just the sandwich?”
Now of course you know my answer. I went with the meal. I wanted those fries.
Golden Arches Takes Away "No's"
The Golden Arches had taken my decision and made it into an “either-or” decision.
They took away the “No” possiblities.
- I wasn’t asked if I wanted fries. (now in my case that wouldn't have happened but…)
- I wasn’t asked if I wanted to supersize it.
- I wasn’t asked if I wanted a drink with my sandwich.
Using The Golden Arches Lesson In Your Business
How does that apply to your business promotion? When you develop your promotions and products, do you offer your message in a variety of ways?
- Can people download your information in a PDF?
- Can they subscribe to your blog by RSS or email?
- Can they choose to listen to your post through an mp3 download or listen at your site?
Promotion is all about reaching your prospect how they want to be reached with the message you want them to have.
Giving your prospect the option of an “either-or decision” can keep them involved longer. The longer they stay involved, the more opportunity you have to change them from a prospect to a customer. Multimedia options can be a way to reach your customer on their terms.
Remember it’s all about choice and you want the prospect to choose you and your product.
