Make Your Articles A Magnet For Your Targeted Customer
When you're writing articles you want to attract targeted customers and prospects–not just anybody. By putting some thought in before you start writing you can design an article to reach the person you truly want.
Ask yourself these questions.
- Who am I targeting? What characteristics does the customer have? Say for example you're a realtor who lists houses for sale. You can define your reader as:
- Someone who is moving to a larger home because of the birth of another child.
- Someone who is being transferred to another state because of a job change
- Someone whose last child has just married and is ready to downsize
- Someone whose parents need to move into assisted living or closer to family.
By specifically defining your target customer(reader) it makes it easier to write the articles. With a specific person in mind you are able to keep the content devoted to their interests and concerns. The more specific you are the easier it will be to attract a qualified and interested person for your product, service or business. In addition, search engines like content that is relevant to the needs of the searching reader. So keep it focused and targeted to the interests of your desired reader.
- What are they interested in learning or hearing?
- Someone with another child might be interested about what time of year is best to move for a child who is already in school to minimize academic grading problems
- Someone moving out of state might want to know about handling a closing long distance
- Someone who is downsizing might want to learn about tax implications of a sale
- Someone who is helping their parents might want to know how much updating and fix up a house needs to get the best price for their parent
Develop a list of ten topics for the targeted prospect who you want to reach. Just brainstorm and list the concerns and questions you have heard, been asked or thought about. The more specific the better your chance of connecting with your target reader. Some marketers are concerned that targeting will reduce the number of visitors to their site. The overall visitor number will probably decrease but the number of very interested visitors will increase as a result of your content focused on their needs and concerns.
- Block out time in your calendar to write
Use your optimal thinking time to write your articles. Block off time in your calendar. If morning is best then dedicate an hour each morning to your writing. You don't want to just dash off articles.
Articles need to be thoughtful, interesting and filled with relevant content. Set a goal of writing 2-3 articles each day. Even if you only do this five days a week. At the end of the month you'll have 40-60 articles completed. Think of the reach you could have!!
Next time, I'll talk about turning your articles into Powerhouse Promoters.
It’s all about using Word of Mouse to promote your message,
