Making Minutes Count By Staying On Track

bigstockphoto_Valentines_Clock_331600.jpgToday a client called me and said he didn’t have the time to blog three times a week. When I asked if he wanted to change his goals of becoming a recognized expert in his niche over the timeframe he had set, he emphatically said, “No.”

Then he proceeded to talk about the Academy awards show last night.  He had watched the show from start to finish.  It really came down to priorities.

Now magic wands for writing blog posts don’t exist. Or if you have one for sale let me know.

Every day you have new opportunities and challenges. It’s all part of being human.

But what makes the difference between having your business grow through promotion? Or having challenges slow you down or even stop you?

Do you wait till you get find time again to promote?

Challenges and interruptions happen to everyone. As the saying goes, “Life happens.” The difference happens with the way we choose to deal with those interruptions. We all have the same number of hours and minutes each day. It’s how we choose to use them.

Every morning before I head out to the gym, check email or return phone calls I sit down and use a tool called Simpleology.

The Simpleology tool is part of a series of courses that help me focus on finding the most important tasks to do each day.  You can find it at www.simpleology.com. (Note: The first course with the basics is free. I paid for the intermediate courses.)

Before Simpleology I found I was being distracted by the client crisis of the hour.  When the day ended my “To Do List” had the same items as before. No change, no progress.  And I ended up frustrated and angry.  And my family wasn’t thrilled with me and my business wasn’t growing the way I wanted it to.

I had tried time management courses, systems and other stuff (most polite way to state it) programs without results. Actually the systems took so much time, I spent more time moving tags and entering things I really really got behind.

Enter the Simpleology course. I took a chance and went through the exercises.  Now I’ve been able to find the time for the priorities of my life: my husband and family go to the gym and still build my business.

Is it a miracle? No, but it was a way for me to regain control over what I wanted in my life. And I’m on the path to growing the type of business I want.

With the focus I decide what I really want to accomplish each day.  Then I can decide what is the best way to reach that goal for the day.  Simpleology gives me the ability to prioritize and organize things to be done with my longer-term goals.  By having clear short term goals I can quickly see if I am on track to complete those things that move my business forward.

Have other great ideas fly through? There’s a way to list those and quickly get back on track for today.

If your goal is to post in your blog three days a week to gain rapport with your prospects and customers, then three days a week your blog post is on your list of Daily Targets.  To achieve business success you need to focus on your goals and also focus on the tasks to be done to reach those goals.

So ask yourself, what do I want to accomplish today? And ask yourself the same question several times a day to keep you focused and on plan.

And if you want a simple way to stay on track, try Simpleology.  'Nuff said.
